Comparing ACBO/ICE responses to Sex Ed in 2010 and 2015

ACBO= Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario

ICE = Institute for Catholic Education

In my recent posting about ACBO/ICE I wrote about the numerous problems with “Fully Alive” that ICE has been pushing for the last 20 yrs.

This is also a great recent article criticizing the Fully Alive:

Fully Alive has horrible objective results. In another post, I quoted a UO study showing that Ottawa Catholic students have intercourse on average 8 months before Public School counterparts

Even with ICE being bad for our children, only 4 years ago, they were willing to stand up to the govt and say NO to gay marriage being taught in Grade 3. They planned to teach it in Grade 7/8 in 2010.

2010: The Globe and Mail has reported that Catholic officials were developing their own sex-ed program that deviates significantly from the provincial one. The Institute for Catholic Education had informed bureaucrats in the Education Ministry that they were not prepared to introduce children as early as Grade 3 to such topics as homosexuality, Sister Joan Cronin, the institute’s executive director, said in an interview earlier this week.

The institute was working with ministry officials to tailor the province’s now-shelved sex-ed curriculum to separate schools, Sister Joan said. It had completed a first draft for Grade 1 to Grade 7, containing revisions to its long-standing family life program known as Fully Alive.

Mr. McGuinty told reporters Wednesday that this was news to him and said all schools in Ontario that are publicly funded must follow the provincial curriculum.

“God love Sister Joan,” he said. “I don’t distinguish between two school systems when it comes to our curriculum. We have a single curriculum when it comes to mathematics, when it comes to history, when it comes to world studies and when it comes to sex education.”

The now shelved sex-ed curriculum would have introduced the topic of same-sex marriage to Grade 3 students and a mention of anal intercourse in Grade 7. Sister Joan said the Catholic version of the curriculum would not have taught children in separate schools about gender identity until Grade 7.

Now, only 4 years later, ICE (now under Pautler) is taking $$ from Wynne to write a little commentary (“social justice” and “dignity of the person”) around the GenderBending Wynne/BenLevin sex ed. However, they are going to teach the official government curriculum (ie gender identity and gay “marriage” to 8 year old children!). Also, they have offered up our children to Bill 13 GSAs and Equity and inclusive Education (EIE) over the last 5 years.

The ACBO, now under the leadership of Liberal Party partisan Roger Lawler is also 100% behind the government curriculum. in 2015, Cardinal Collins now says: While Catholic schools have a responsibility to follow the curriculum set out by the Ministry of Education..”

The ACBO/ICE statements in 2010 and 2015 are so very different on the SAME curriculum! It must be confusing for Archbishop Prendergast who harshly criticized the curriculum in both 2010 and 2015 – CONSISTENCY!

In 2010, there was talk about “denominational rights” and making major changes to the curriculum between the public and public catholic systems (eg. things introduced 4 to 5 grades later). In 2015, there is submission and capitulation.

IDENTICAL curriculum from 2010 to 2015: http://torontocatholicwitness.blogspot.ca/2015/03/the-ontario-2015-sex-ed-program-copy.html

How will this new curriculum impact what is taught in Catholic schools?

2015: Liz Sandals: The curriculum is the same in public schools and Catholic schools—this is the Ontario curriculum. In the case of the Catholic schools, they also do a lot of curriculum development through an organization called ICE, which is the Institute for Catholic Education, and that’s the Catholic teachers, the Catholic principals, the Catholic directors—it’s all the stakeholders in the Catholic education system. The Bishops are represented there too. So we work with ICE on the development of their curriculum. They will make some components of the curriculum part of their family life course.

In terms of (what) your parents would want to know, the Catholic trustees, the Catholic teachers, the Catholic principals, the Catholic directors have all been quite supportive of the curriculum.

Liz Sandals has also said this:

2015: ” that while the Catholic school system will be able to provide “commentary” on the government-mandated sex-ed through its own family life program, it won’t be allowed to change anything and must “deliver” the sex-ed as written.”

Even though the ACBO and ICE have capitulated, please stand firm for your children!! Do what is best for them! Protect their souls!

  1. Why do the Catholic bishops routinely employ people with left-wing sympathies? I for one won’t be “writing to a Bishop” about this incident. They should know better.

  2. Our bishops make up a pusillanimous lot. They are terrified. They know that they will be excoriated by the media and by many Catholics (sic dictum). They will say and do, only that, which is safe. Believe me, these bishops are not made, of martyr’s “stuff”. Also, don’t forget, that the bishops are products, of the “Spell” of Vatican II. Truly hypnotic are the conciliar teachings on “religious freedom”, which cannot be reconciled with previous teachings on religious tolerance, “ecumenism” which ignores Mortalium Animos (1928) and Ecclesia Catholica (1949) and finally “collegiality” which has destroyed authority in the church. The many Modernist incantations that arise from this “Spell” effectively gag and “strait jacket” our bishops. Where does one find an explicit and courageous defense of our doctrine of faith and morals? Well, on blogs like this and Vox Cantoris, of course. Imagine that, blog owners, picking up the torch and saying, what we should be hearing, from our pulpits and our trustees. Don’t wait for our bishops. Long ago, they threw in the towel. When it comes to defending the faith “these whimpering episcopal dogs don’t hunt.”

Deliver us, O Lord, from the negligence, of the bishops.

For the Catholic school boards of Ontario, there is an answer, to the neopagan sex-ed sewer, of Bernard Levin and Kathleen Wynne . “NO”

Keep up the good work here. Confronting the garbage that pours out of ICE and CARFLEO, is time consuming task.
