Have too many parents figured out that the propaganda from OECTA and OCSTA is simply NOT true?? There is NOT a substantial difference between Public and “catholic” schools. This is proven by several Cardus studies.
Given all the watering down of the “catholic” system by OECTA, OCSTA etc, has the 3rd rail of ending the separate system disappeared?
Trustee candidate alleges Catholic board meddled in election
Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board sent a letter asking for support for Catholic education
“Back in the summer, I actually [sent] a survey to Catholic school board houses … That survey went out to 6,000 houses. I got back 600 of them and between 70 and 79 per cent of Catholic school board houses who actually got the survey actually supported this idea,”
“being a Catholic means not much anymore. I went to catholic school, andthe teachers mostly were not catholic. I had one teacher who was openly proclaiming his love for his religion, atheism. So many people call themselves catholic, but in their actions, they are more secularists/atheists. Merge them together with the Moslem mosques too.”
OECTA was successful in ousting the pro-life trustees at HCDSB. 6 of their 9 endorsed candidates won. These trustees are now beholden to an employees’ union for the next 4 years.
With low voter turnout and high teacher/spouse turnout, OECTA now controls their employer.
The only faithful Catholic trustees are now Tim O’Brien and Helen Karabela
So, expect no prolife and other true Catholic teachings to come from the HCDSB. Students will suffer spiritually and educationally.
(Yellow = winner)
Did OECTA break the law?
It is even worse in Ottawa OCSB. 60% of the seats were acclaimed. Faithful Catholics don’t even bother to run because they know OECTA will organize against them. That is how the previous Chair Elaine McMahon was elected (former teacher who lives with OECTA labour negotiator Michele Pierce)
She is by no means a great trustee. She is a leftist nun. But she is much better than Pro abort Regan Preszcator who was appointed by the board in June. Shelley also applied but was rejected!
How out of touch is this board? How about 85% to 15% !!!
The following when Sr Shelley was working as an OCSB chaplain amd working with her students for the election of the FMLN party in El Salvador
I offer you the example of my first cousin. Like me, he was baptized, confirmed, and studied in Catholic schools. At some point, he stopped regularly practicing his faith and was married outside of the Catholic Church. When his first child was born, he returned to his parish and requested baptism. The pastor told him that his baby could not be baptized unless his marriage was convalidated. Does such a conditional welcome witness to the unconditional love of God? Does it reveal the Good Shepherd who rejoices as He raises the lost sheep onto His shoulders? Where is the delight of the woman as she finds her lost coin? Where is the compassion of the Father as He runs to embrace His prodigal son? (cf. Luke 15)
Whatever happened to the priest needing a “reasonable hope” that the child be brought up within the Catholic faith??
This Rosica-acolyte fellow whines and doesn’t bother to get the side of the priest!! His cousin probably said he had no plans to show up again until 1st communion and insulted the priest when he was told that marrying outside the Church puts him in mortal sin.
Meanwhile, the aux Bishop of Montréal told the world how atrocious the govt run “catholic” school system is in Ontario. It is has just declined since the 1980s too!
I was born in 1970, and my religious upbringing in the Catholic school system and in our parishes used a new approach to catechesis. I can say it was an abysmal failure. In many cases, it remained too academic, i.e. it just gave us pieces, and no overall picture. It also gave us no starting methodology to build the puzzle ourselves. And often, our catechists left out pieces or tried to introduce others that were foreign to the Catholic image, or refuse to turn some of them over so we could see the true image and not just a grey backside. Thank goodness I had parents well-versed in Catholic teaching, as I do not think the catechesis and Catholic education I had received at my parish and school would have been sufficient. I can see the results among my friends, many if not most of whom no longer practice or even believe.
in contrast to the whiny salt and Light kid, theses Australian students sent asn amazing letter!!
“out of date social values”
“completely out of step with the values of most Ontarians”
OECTA does NOT want to evangelize Ontario with Catholic moral teachings! They love to push its own regressive agenda of LGBT and abortion and contraception and Embryo killing for “research” and IVF!
They call trustees who don’t want $$ donated to charities that push things against our Church teachings, “arch conservative”.
With OECTA-controlled trustees as the majority is almost all boards, why bother having a “Catholic” school system? To produce more Justin Trudeaus?
